Love beer? Me too. And, I’m always hoping to discover a new favorite brew.

That’s why I recently joined Amazing Club’s Beer of the Month Club. I just received my first shipment (YAY!) and love the club already.

Seriously, 12 award-winning beers delivered to my door? Sign me up! No wonder it’s rated the best monthly beer club.

Read on to discover what I thought of the beers (or jump ahead). But, before we review the beers, let’s open the box...

Amazing Clubs Beer of the Month Club Unboxing:

Amazing Clubs beer club comes in a nondescript, brown, cardboard box. No branding or advertisements to make the postman jealous.

Like other beer and wine clubs, a person 21-years of age or older must sign for the package. Though signing can be a bit of a nuisance, it prevents underage drinking (so don’t try and order one kids – it won’t work!).

The box arrives with little fanfare. Amazing Clubs beer of the month club puts all their energy into delivering great beer. Why waste time on the frills? My shipment included a coupon, an informational newsletter about the month’s selection, and the good stuff – the beer – safely packed and protected.

The only downside? The beer didn’t arrive cold. So, I popped them in the fridge and invited a few co-reviewers over to share in the bounty.

The Beer

My first Amazing Clubs beer of the month club shipment featured two ales from two different breweries: Flying Fish Brewing from New Jersey and Mendocino Brewing from northern California. Here’s what was included:

  • Eye of the Hawk Imperial Ale - American Strong Ale by Mendocino Brewing
  • Blue Heron Pale Ale - American Pale Ale (APA) by Mendocino Brewing
  • Red Fish India Red Ale - West Coast-style hoppy red ale by Flying Fish
  • Hopfish India Pale Ale (IPA) - classic English-style IPA by Flying Fish

I can see why Amazing Clubs is the top rated monthly beer club earning the highest ranking from our other reviewers.

My fellow reviewers and I started out by sampling the Hopfish India Pale Ale. IPAs have taken over the microbrew scene in recent years and have roots dating back to the late 1700s in London. They are known for their strong, hoppy flavors that are complemented by citrusy, fruity, and resiny infusions. Hopfish did not disappoint.

The Hopfish IPA contains 6.2% alcohol by volume (ABV) and has earned an 81/100 from over 800 BeerAdvocate reviews.

This clear-amber beer poured a perfect off-white, bubbly head. Sipping the Hopfish IPA provided a sweet caramel malt taste that’s typical of an English-style IPA without being overpowering. The finish gave late hints of grapefruit, citrus, and bitter aftertaste. Overall, an enjoyable beer and our favorite of the bunch!

Of the other beers in this month’s shipment, we enjoyed Mendocino Brewing Company’s Eye of the Hawk American Strong Ale most.

This beer boasts an 8.0% ABV, which packs quite a punch. Eye of the Hawk poured a dark gold hue and provided nice head, which filmed out after a minute or two. The beer’s flavor profile opened with a sweet, malt, and light-hops flavor. This was backed by sweet, sugar notes. In many ways, it reminded me more of an English-style ale than the American strong ale it is advertised as. Either way – a tasty beer overall.

I can’t wait to see what next month’s order has in store (and I know my co-reviewers are excited as well).

Want to know how the rest of the beers were? You’ll just have to try them yourself...
